Liz Thomas, LMSW

First off, thank you for being brave enough to take this first step in this journey! Navigating life at any age often brings unpredictable challenges, leaving a need to search for belonging. I believe you deserve to feel confident in your inherent worth and that you belong—always. In the queer community, therapeutic supports are vital for survival. Intersectionality can be enriching, but it can also bring feelings of loneliness when your identity differs significantly from those around you. As a queer woman of color and as a therapist, I understand the importance of having a space where you can be your most authentic self. My focus as a therapist involves tools of practical skills that can be understood, relatable, and adaptive to your specific needs. I do this by specializing in techniques based on narrative therapy, using storytelling to uncover the narratives that shape who you are, and reminding you that you are the expert of your own journey. Our own narratives can feel buried under the weight of more significant problems we witness others experience, even parasocially.

Finding our own path, learning who we are, and accepting ourselves to cultivate where we want to be is essential. In addition to narrative therapy, I like to utilize skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT, a Mindfulness-Based Intervention, to focus on staying present with yourself and to help you build awareness to see that you are already enough as you are right now. At each session, you will be encouraged to learn skills from these techniques and use them for your healing separately from our work together. I value practical skills so that after each session there is a plan in action that we are committing to work on together. I also like to use different mediums of healing to prioritize healing that feels most unique to you. Whether through movies, musicals, anime, or even memes (and 10 house points to Hufflepuff if you bring me a therapy meme I haven’t seen before)!

I am genuinely excited to meet you and begin this journey together! Your story is important; I’m looking forward to supporting you in discovering and embracing the incredible person you are. Thank you for being here. :)
