The Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS)

The Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), a widely used tool for assessing the severity of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms. It includes a checklist and a severity scale, with the latter consisting of 10 items that measure the extent and impact of obsessions and compulsions on a patient's daily functioning. Clinicians often use the Y-BOCS to both initially assess the severity of OCD symptoms and to monitor changes over the course of treatment. This scale is considered a reliable and valid measure and is integral in both clinical settings and research studies focusing on OCD.
